BLOGMAS DAY 11 // HOLIDAY PARTY OUTFIT GUIDE

HOLIDAY PARTY OUTFIT GUIDE

I love me a good holiday party... like I mean really love them. The food, the music, the chit chat. I may be an introvert but throw in Christmas and I'm in my element! It's also so important for me that I feel confident in what I'm wearing. There's nothing worse than wearing an outfit that is too revealing or too tight. It's your night to own it! So here are some of my picks from this years selection of dresses.

BLOGMAS DAY 7 // ASOS GIFT GUIDE

ASOS GIFT GUIDE

So, as so many online retailers do, ASOS' website has created gift guides for their customers needs. I thought it would be nice to pick through these gift guides and find my favorites!
I love ASOS, which might sound weird for European viewers, because it just isn't as big of a company in the U.S. But it has so many incredible choices in both high end and affordable price points. Honestly, since finding ASOS I haven't needed to scan through Nordstrom's website - which used to be my favorite site!
And now for the gift guide...

BLOGTOBER DAY 27 // AUTUMN FASHION

AUTUMN FASHION //

There are so many wonderful things to love about Autumn. But I think the most important would have to be the clothes. Winters in New York would make me hate sweaters, boots, and scarves by the time I could finally turn over my closet. But, no matter how much I loathed them, by September I was so ready to be bundled up. It's almost like fashion amnesia.
I don't ever really do fashion hauls on here because I do repeat pieces quite often (Homegirl got a tight budget) but I went and picked up a few new things I was excited to show you!

BLOGTOBER DAY 16 // HALLOWEEN COSTUME EXTRAVAGANZA

I really can't even tell you how excited I am to dress up this year. Normally I wait until literally the day of to think of a costume. I would say that's mostly because in university... I couldn't stand dressing up. I knew what everyone else would be wearing (or not wearing if you catch my drift). I couldn't look at a pair of cat ears without rolling my eyes eternally.
My senior year my amazing makeup artist friend did my makeup like Marie Antoinette. We took a subway ride down to the city (being stopped many times to take pictures with people) and wandered around the city. After taking a million pictures with random strangers we went back to campus and called it a night, just watching scary movies and waiting until midnight to go buy half priced candy.
This is my idea of a Halloween well spent. Dressed up as much as you can and then just relaxing with some scary films. The parties should be had during the month of, in my opinion, which is exactly what happened yesterday!
And what could my costume this year be.... (drumroll please).

BLOGTOBER DAY 4 // QUICK PUMPKIN BREAD

Can it really be October without eating copious amounts of pumpkin bread? Even when we were living in Spain my sister and I found a Taste of America and spent a crap load of Euros on pumpkin puree... It is an obsession no one can deny. Even though I deny anything pumpkin spiced, this bread is just pure bliss.
I may have cheated teensy weensy bit by buying a quick make bread but I promise there will be a baking recipe made from scratch at some point this week! But to start it all off, here's a very easy and tasty pumpkin bread.

BLOGTOBER DAY 1 // SEPTEMBER FAVORITES

Well 2016, I think I can mark you down as the fastest year in the history of years. Even saying the word October feels strange and mysterious. I am so excited to be attempting Blogtober this year. I feel like it will be a wonderful creative outlet to use as a diversion from other areas of my life. But before we dig into October, (there will PLENTY of that in the next 30 days) let's take a look back at the cool things I was lovin' the month of September.

BLOGTOBER // 31 DAYS OF BLOGS

This might just be the most ridiculous idea I have had in awhile. I'll probably kick myself in a week for even putting the thought into my mind but... what's life without a little bit of madness? So I'm putting my name in the cauldron and taking part of Blogtober!
31 Days... 31 WHOLE DAYS of posting a blog. I really want the content to be good, not just churning out posts for postsake (lol not a word). But I'm up to the challenge and I think it will be great preparation for Blogmas as well.

I will reveal week by week the topics of the blog: A) Because tackling the number 7 is better than the number 31 B) Keep it secret... keep it safe.

I hope you Gals and Ghouls are ready because October is gonna get spooktacular!

Here is week one's lineup:
1) September Favorites
2) Favorite Halloween Movies
3) Fall Bucket List
4) Baking Halloween Treats
5) Halloween Decorating Tips
6) Turning Back the Clock: Childhood Halloween Costumes
7) Fall Beauty

I hope you will join me for this haunted hayride of a month! Also, tag me in your own Blogtober posts and I'll be more than happy to check them out :) Xoxo Sam

DRESSING FOR THE SEASON //

As I was sitting down to write this post my initial intention was to make it as Fall as possible. The funny thing about this season is that I had never really experienced a true Autumn until I moved to New York. No surprise here but... it quickly became my favorite season.
The humidity in New York would finally leave and in its place came a chilling air. The leaves in and around the city would become absolutely breathtaking. Don't get me wrong, Spring (after a long and freezing winter) is just as beautiful but it was Fall that stole the scene.
Now that I'm back in Los Angeles I am aching for a taste of real Fall. The weather here is a roller coaster that stays somewhere between 80 and 90 (27 to 32 Celsius) and it just really kills the mood. Wearing shorts half-way through October isn't exactly my ideal situation.
What usually happens, at least here in Southern California, is that people dress for the season and not the weather. It can be 85 degrees without a cloud in the sky and you can bet that there will be a woman with a turtleneck sweater drinking a hot pumpkin spice latte. It's quite hilarious I can't lie but you know what... I am culprit of this as well. So I am going to humor myself here and post some of my current favorite looks for Autumn that won't be too ridiculous to be wearing walking around the beach or in the stifling hot city.

AUGUST FAVORITES //

Welp. Bye August of 2016 it was nice knowin' ya! We are finally finally FINALLY in the month of September woo woo woo woo. I spent an incredible holiday weekend up in Lake Arrowhead and it was literally the perfect transition weekend into Fall. The air was chilled and when the fog rolls up the side of the mountain and spills onto the streets and houses around the lake it feels like you could be living in a cloud. I was able to wear my new bomber jacket (which shall be put in my favorites below!) and actually not feel crazy for bundling up.
We also went to the resort for a cheeky little massage and gaaahhh it was pure heaven! I think I will need to do a good post for Lake Arrowhead the next time I'm up there...
Without further ado here are my August loves

Books: I may have over done it with this one friends. I have decided to read every Jane Austen book and my goal is really to finish before December but I only have Pride and Prejudice finished so far! Now on to Emma! Starting my own Jane Austen Book club lololol
Movies: I didn't go to the movies once... this whole month... that. never. happens.
Television: I also lagged hard in the t.v. department in terms of new television shows hehe sars.
I did rewatch Scream Queens and have been catching up on Masters of Sex before the new season starts! I am so beyond BEYOND beyond ready for Fall television to begin I could barf.
Music: I think I am going to be making a fall playlist so I will definitely link that in my twitter.

Happy Fall y'all and let me know what you were loving the month of August! Xoxo Sam

MY CURRENT STYLE CRUSH

So I feel like I kind of hit a wall in the blogging section of my mind. Honestly, the problem is that I have so many more ideas for fall and winter posts that this awkward, uncomfortably hot, everlasting summer time is just trè trè uninspiring. As I was racking my brain I realized that I have never done a celebrity/blogger/youtuber style post. I have an ENTIRE SECRET Pinterest page just dedicated to celebrity fashion. I have no clue why I keep it on private but Hey we aren't here to ask questions about my weird quirks right? Right.
So as I mentioned in my July Favorites (which can be devoured here) I read "Grace & Style: The Art of Pretending You Have It" and it made my internal gospel choir rejoice. Not only is Grace Helbig unreal gorg but her style tips are so frustratingly sensible! I feel like my style is never ever ever the same and literally changes with my moods so I have a crap ton of random pieces in my closet.

Example:
1. a Woodstock T-shirt for when I channel the flower child vibe
2. button up collared blouse for when I channel my inner preppy vibe
3. vintage dresses from when I wanted to be Zooey Deschanel

It's such a mess and is truly an example of my inner self but I'm telling you the book made me really rethink my shopping habits (as well as a crisis when I literally screamed at my closet for not having anything I liked). So here are some of the pins I have collected of Grace and her fab sense of fashion!

Let me know who your style crushes are and I will 100% check them out and maybe even add them to my secret board which you'll never know because it's private! Okay bye! xoxo Sam

JULY FAVORITES

JU got to be LYing to me that this month is already over. (badpunbadpunsbadpuns) It went lightening fast and honestly the biggest "accomplishment" I made was finishing the Harry Potter series which you, my friend, can read about here. Today I got an email from Bath and Body Works -- we're in a pretty personal relationship, nothin special -- and lo and behold THEY ARE ADVERTISING FALL CANDLES. Okaaayyyyy I mean cool. yeah. I'm cool with it.
To think that for the past four summers I was preparing to go back to school around this time. Saying goodbyes, planning my return trip (war flashbacks to packing/traveling with said luggage), and getting back into the school mentality.
But NOW I'm approaching that endless void of "you can do what you want now" and... well... HALP.
And now for the moment you've all been sitting on the edge of your seats for -- I know the anxiety is a lot for me too-- what did I like/love for the summertime month of July:

Makeup
I was given a tip that putting on a tinted moisturizer will kind of help with the longevity of your foundation. I gotta say folks, they didn't lie. I like this one because sometimes moisturizer's can sometimes leave me feeling oily. BUT LOOK LOOK LOOK Oil Free^^^^

I've been putting this on before my mascara and I have to say my lashes have never looked better. The white lash look is also great for costumes like: a ghost, a kid with white eyelashes (ooo spooky), or a crazy aunt.

Woof, I love nail polish color names, but this one's a doozy. That being said the color is super delightful to behold every time I look down at my nails.

Clothing
I commend her for pulling off the choker look. But guys, I can't do it. I think I'm allergic to trend-wear honestly. The shirt I CAN say is super soft and cozy and comfy and yes. I also wore it to Buffalo Wild Wings and felt immediate anxiety that I looked like I could also be a waiter there.

The name of the company pretty much does it for me.

Misc.
Music: I've been either listening to oldies or podcasts right now honestly. I love that Spotify has so much to offer. Totes worth the monthly fee (there was no sarcasm there I swear).
Books: Again Harry Potter but now that I'm finished I'm Free I'm Free! I'm going to hold off on Cursed Child just because, and I HATE TO SAY THIS, but my friends who have read it were sadly disappointed. BUT I just finished reading Grace & Style: The Art of Pretending You Have It by Grace Helbig and it was frickin hysterical.
T.V.: The Bachelor is over. She chose the wrong guy yada yada NEXT. OMG tho Stranger Things. I binged that like a bowl of ice cream. 11 I miss you, sent us a note saying you're okay. Okay?!
Movies: Please refer to my previous post Summer Movie Extravaganza here! I also saw the new Woody Allen film by myself at noon on a Monday because they have senior discounts and apparently I'm an 82 year old not a 22 year old.

Let me know what some of your favorite things in July were OR OR OR let me know your blog name and I'll come check it out for myself! xoxo Sam

June Favorites

Well my lovelies it is already that time again. On the 25th I kept seeing ads saying "Halfway to Christmas" and it was just mind blowing! But also really exciting as I hope to amp up my holiday blogging game this year. I really love doing the favorites because I can go back and look at what inspired me that month. What was I listening to, watching, reading, etc. Honestly, even if you don't want a blog to be read, I would recommend it to everyone. It's like a yearbook of your life (if you stay consistent), much like going back and reading your old journals.
The posts I was making 6 months ago or four years ago are so completely different from what I am doing now. It's so much fun to read back on old posts and laugh/cringe/tear up from the memories I wrote down. So this is my message for the month of July: MAKE A BLOG, even if it's just on a blank white screen, no pictures, no flare. Take some time to make memories and write them down. Who knows if the internet will still be what is it today in 50 years but being able to go back and read about who I was at this time of my life would be so fascinating years down the road.
Okay... Rant over.

Misc.
Music: This month was sadly really uninspiring in terms of music. If anyone has some cool tunes they've heard recently I would love to find some new jams!
Books: My reading corner is still consisting of Harry Potter but I finished the 4th AND 5th book this June so two more and I will have read the whole series, consecutively, in a pretty short amount of time (considering everything that was going on in the months of April and May).
Also I couldn't write a Favorites review without mentioning the book "Milk and Honey" by Rupi Kaur. Incredible poems that every twenty-something should read. I have definitely gone back a few times to re-read the poems that spoke to me.
T.V.: Orange is the New Black came back this month and I swear I did a really great job at not binging through them... until one day when I watched 5 in a row. That last episode had me crying for, no joke, the entire hour and 10 minutes.
AND OF COURSE CAN'T FORGET ABOUT GAME OF THRONES. It was a killer season that I think tops any television ever created all the way from start to finish. Just incredible television.
Movies: I was very excited for Neon Demon after watching the stunning teaser trailers but man... it was rough. Not even the gorgeous graphics and imagery could make up for the numb and snore-worthy plot and acting.
Finding Dory was trè adorable as I expected it would be. Baby Dory made me want to scream from cuteness.

That is it for my June Favorites! As always let me know in the comments what you were loving this month or tag your blog posts and I will definitely check them out! Much love xoxo Sam

April...and May Showers: Spring Time Gloom Fashion

Hello! So New York has been just downright gloomy for literally like almost two weeks now. And if you live somewhere that has a colder climate you know that there is this weird/awkward inbetween phase where it's too hot to wear your big, puffy winter coats but is no where near warm enough to go without extra layers. I am someone who always jumps straight into summer once there is one hot day (it's the California in me I swear) and then I will be chronically cold for weeks after.
Now no one wants to go out and buy cold-weather clothes when summer is just around the corner but I scanned through some sites and found some pieces that would work well for the tween months!

Of course I am really hoping this gray sky leaves soon so I can enjoy my last few weeks in New York with a little bit of sunshine! Let me know what your favorite pieces are in the spring time gloom xoxo Sam

Mod Cloth Lovin'

So I have to admit I have a love of vintage clothing. I think my obsession with the 50's-70's has always inspired my own outfit buying decisions. Well the other day I was browsing ModCloth and came upon a number of pieces that I am dying to get my hand's on! I thought I would share some of them with you all.

They are all so perfect for summer! Who could ask for more I mean the cactus clutch?! my heart. Hope you all enjoy and let me know what some of your favorites are as well! xoxo Sam
